In the Spring of 2015, the City Council approved to receive grant funds from the United States Tennis Association and the Arkansas Tennis Patrons Association to assist with the cost of renovating McCloy Park’s existing adult tennis courts to include two wheelchair accessible & youth tennis courts.
“This project will provide a unique opportunity for Monticello to be home to the only dedicated Wheelchair Tennis Courts in South Arkansas,” said Mayor Zack Tucker. “The court renovation is opening the sport of tennis to an entirely new demographic of people: youth & our wheelchair bound residents. These open to the public courts, are something Monticellonians can be proud of.”
In conjunction with resurfacing project, the USTA grant included funds to help City to work with a newly started local tennis league, Boys & Girls Club, and local youth programs to help provide accessible tennis lessons for the community’s disadvantaged youth.
