Across the country, over 3,500 mayors and county administrators lead their communities in recognizing and committing to community service and volunteerism; in partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, National League of Cities and local AmeriCorps teams.
This year, the Mayor has dedicated the service day to benefit our local veterans.
"This day is a great opportunity for residents to serve and give back to the veterans who served us in the armed forces," said Mayor Tucker.
Following the ribbon cutting of the new Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office at the Drew Count Courthouse, Tucker and AmeriCorps volunteers worked to clean up around the local American Legion Hunt, which is located near McCloy Park.
Before they began working, Tucker read a proclamation recognizing local AmeriCorps & Senior Corps and proclaiming April 5, 2016 a Municipal Day of Service in Monticello.
